Windows XP Recovery Virus Removal

May 25th, 2011

Windows XP Recovery is a new fake computer program. Since the program is fake, it shouldn’t be purchased; however, the program will attempt to trick you into purchasing it. It does this by hiding your files and then telling you that your hard drive has failed! However, the files are all still there but are now hidden files. Turn on hidden files and folders to see these files. If your computer has been recently infected with Windows XP Recovery, we recommend attempting a system restore before attempting to manually remove it.

Hidden Files and Folders
When Windows XP Recovery infects the computer, it will hide a majority of the user files. In order to unhide these files, go to folder options, go to the view tab, and click show hidden files, folders, and drives. In order to make these hidden files permanently not hidden, go to the properties settings of the file and uncheck hidden.
